1. General information about grain beetles
The grain beetle (Oryzaephilus surinamensis) is one of the most common stored product pests in households, warehouses, and food processing plants. The beetles are 2.5–3.5 mm long, narrow, brownish in color, and have distinctively toothed sides on their pronotum.
They infest a variety of dry foods: grains, flour, rice, oatmeal, pasta, nuts, and dried fruit . Females lay up to 300 eggs in food. The hatched larvae consume the food from the inside. Feeding, contamination, and moisture ingress can cause food to become moldy and unusable.
