1. General information about ball beetles
The pill beetle (Gibbium psylloides) is a small, round beetle with a reddish-brown color, measuring only 2–3 mm. It is a stored product pest and is found in basements, pantries, storage rooms, and homes . Pill beetles feed on dried foods such as flour, pasta, grain, or animal feed, but can also infest paper, textiles, or insulation materials.
Their inconspicuousness is problematic: Pill beetles are nocturnal, hide in cracks and crevices during the day, and can multiply unnoticed for years. In inhabited spaces, they are therefore considered hygiene pests that can render supplies unusable.
